Kanchenjunga Region

The Kanchenjunga region is located in the far eastern part of Nepal, bordering Sikkim, India. It is one of the most remote and least developed regions of Nepal, with stunning natural beauty and rich cultural diversity. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world, and the region offers some of the most challenging and rewarding treks in Nepal.

The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is the most popular trekking route in the region, which takes around 20 to 25 days to complete. The trek starts from the town of Taplejung and passes through various small villages and settlements such as Chiruwa, Ghunsa, and Lhonak, which is the starting point for the ascent to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The region is known for its stunning natural beauty, including pristine forests, alpine meadows, and high-altitude landscapes.

The trek involves crossing high mountain passes, including the Mirgin La Pass (4,645 meters) and the Sele La Pass (4,290 meters), and exploring the Yalung Glacier. The region offers stunning views of the Kanchenjunga and Makalu mountain ranges, as well as the opportunity to experience the unique culture and traditions of the Limbu people, who are the dominant ethnic group in the region.

The best time to trek in the Kanchenjunga region is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is mild, and the skies are clear. It is always recommended to trek with a licensed trekking company or guide and to obtain the necessary permits from the Nepal government.
